I have seen this before. Take this from a man who has rebuilt. A nickname is the hall's review of you, published without consultation.
Learn the nicknames' stories when you join a hall. They are the oral history of the place.
A nickname from a war outlives the war, the banner, and sometimes the friendship.
I would rather you heard it here than in a war report.
