Which Great House Are You?

Answer honestly, not strategically — the realm has never once rewarded a lord for picking what sounds best. Twenty questions, real Westerosi houses, and a verdict on why yours fits — written by an AI from your own answers when it can, and the house's own written portrait when it cannot.

Saddling the ravens…

How the Great House quiz works

Twenty questions, asked one at a time, each with five answers. None of them is a knowledge question and there is nothing to get right: they ask what you would do at a feast, with sudden power or on a day off, and every answer leans toward one of nine houses. You can go back and change an answer until you have given the last one. When you finish, your answers are sent to this site's server, which counts the pull toward each house and places you in the strongest. It needs at least twelve answers to place you fairly, and it turns down fewer rather than guess.

The placement never changes for the same answers: the counting is fixed, so a reread lands on the same house. What changes is the short verdict on why the house fits you, which is written fresh from your answers when a model is available. Under it you see the house you pulled toward next, when there is one, a button to share the result and a button to retake the quiz from the first question.

What happens to your answers

Your answers are sent to this site's server, which places you. To write the short verdict, the server then sends the wording of the options you picked toward your house to an outside AI model provider, which writes the verdict from that wording. When no model is available, or the day's budget for verdicts is spent, the house's own written portrait is shown instead and nothing is sent.

Your IP address is noted as a rate-limit key, so that one address cannot submit twice inside ten seconds, and the note is deleted from this site's database after a day. Your visit to this page is also counted, in the same way as a visit to any other page here. All of it is set out on the privacy page.

More from A Song of Ice and Fire

This is the oldest page in the Fan Zone, and it has company. The A Song of Ice and Fire section has more sorting quizzes, a house-words generator, a banner builder and a daily lore round, every one of them running inside your browser, and you can put a question to Jon Snow on a page of his own. For who's who and what happened, the A Song of Ice and Fire answers take the questions fans ask most, from Jon Snow's parents to the Dance of the Dragons, and print the same houses table as this page.

Common questions

How does the Great House quiz place you in a house?
It counts. Each answer you pick leans toward one house, the server adds up the pull toward each of the nine, and the strongest wins; a dead heat goes to the house listed first. It needs at least twelve answers to place you.
Which Great Houses can the quiz place you in?
Nine: Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, Greyjoy, Tully, Arryn, Tyrell, Baratheon and Martell. The table on this page gives each one's seat and region, from the same list the quiz places you with.
Can you retake the Great House quiz?
Yes, as often as you like: the button under your result starts the twenty questions again. The same answers always give the same house, so a different result means you answered differently.
