Settle an argument — what the Wall's oldest guards are not allowed to say aloud

I have gone back through the ledgers, so you need not. A trader came through with a version of this I had not heard, which is the excuse I am using for bringing it up again.

The question, put plainly: what the Wall's oldest guards are not allowed to say aloud. I think we have been asking the wrong question for a hundred years.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

The record will still say this next season.
