Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.
What I am actually asking is whether the Others fear fire or merely dislike it. The songs flatter one answer, and I distrust whatever the songs flatter.
Ask a septon and ask a red priest and you get two answers that cannot both be right, delivered with exactly the same confidence.
Ask me again after the first frost; my answer will have moved.
