Before you march on a Seat of Power, scout its garrison and check whether reinforcements can arrive before your first wave. I have lost keeps by trusting the map more than the road. Check the march time both ways. Ask your rally partners to confirm they are ready, then agree on one arrival time so your force does not hit alone. Keep a reserve at home; a seat is no prize if your own gate is left thin. If the scout report is old, scout again. I check the cookfire before the map, then the roads and gates. Leave room for one late march or a frightened soldier to make a mistake.
