Allow me a moment of unhelpful accuracy. My maester tells me I raise this too often. My maester is welcome to raise something better.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether the dragons came back on purpose. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

The part nobody accounts for is time. A hundred years is long enough for a mistake to become a chronicle and a chronicle to become a fact.
