Let us be honest about what happens here. I have been on the lucky side of this and the other one.
The honest answer is that it is fair over a season and wildly unfair over an evening.
A head start is real and it is not the same thing as skill. Both can be true.
That is the shape of it, whether or not it is pleasant. We shall all pretend to be surprised.
