Somebody had to say it, and it may as well be me. Half the hall has an opinion here and the other half pretends not to. I would rather hear from both.
What I am actually asking is whether the prince that was promised is a person or a story people needed. I think the plain answer is the true one, and everybody has talked themselves past it.
There is a version of this where the truth is dull — a bad decision, a bad winter, nobody's grand design — and I have never once heard anybody argue for it.
