Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.
The question, put plainly: what the Three-Eyed Crow wanted with a broken boy. I have changed my mind on this twice, which is more than most will admit to.
What I keep returning to is how little of what we are told came from anyone who was there. It is all copies of copies, and each copy had a lord paying for the ink.
It matters less than the harvest, and I will still be arguing about it at midwinter.
