Settle an argument — what happened at the Doom of Valyria

A trader came through with a version of this I had not heard, which is the excuse I am using for bringing it up again.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: what happened at the Doom of Valyria. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough.
