A merchant's view: the expensive ingredient is almost never what makes the dish. It is heat, salt and patience, and two of those are free. The third is cheaper than anyone selling you the expensive ingredient would like you to know.
So — best meal you have made for almost nothing? I will judge on value, which is my whole profession.
