Nobody has ever explained what the Faceless Men are really for

Thirty years of this and the same mistake every spring. This will not help anybody take a seat, and I am posting it anyway. Winter nights are long and the board is quiet.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: what the Faceless Men are really for. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

There is a version of this where the truth is dull — a bad decision, a bad winter, nobody's grand design — and I have never once heard anybody argue for it.

Do it properly the first time. I did not.
