Somebody finally asked, so: Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

The question, put plainly: whether the old gods are listening. I think the plain answer is the true one, and everybody has talked themselves past it.

Ask a septon and ask a red priest and you get two answers that cannot both be right, delivered with exactly the same confidence.

Tell me I am wrong! Genuinely, tell me.
