Settle an argument — whether the dragons came back on purpose

I have been on both ends of what follows. Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

What I am actually asking is whether the dragons came back on purpose. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

Ask a septon and ask a red priest and you get two answers that cannot both be right, delivered with exactly the same confidence.

I would rather you heard it here than in a war report.
