Nobody has ever explained what Rhaegar was doing at the Tower of Joy

As ever. Let us be honest about what happens here. Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

What I am actually asking is what Rhaegar was doing at the Tower of Joy. I think the plain answer is the true one, and everybody has talked themselves past it.

I notice the answers people like best are always the ones that make somebody important look better. That is not proof of anything, but it is a pattern.

Prove me wrong. Please. I would enjoy it.
