Count the cost before the glory. The first week decides the first month, and most lords waste it on the wrong building.
Barracks before the first raid finds you, not after.
Keep your granary ahead of your barracks or your host eats your expansion.
Spend accordingly. My caravans leave at dawn. I can supply the timber. At a price.
