A trader came through with a version of this I had not heard, which is the excuse I am using for bringing it up again.
Strip the songs away and it comes to this: what happened at the Doom of Valyria. My maester has a theory. My maester has fourteen theories.
Ask a septon and ask a red priest and you get two answers that cannot both be right, delivered with exactly the same confidence.
Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough.
