I grew up in a small village where the river ran low, and the bad year when rain failed and the crops shriveled to half their normal size taught me that hard luck is not always defeated by courage — sometimes you survive by saving what can still be saved.
That is why I closed the gates of my level 18 keep until the host is fit to fight — not because a wall makes a lord wise, but because history is full of battles begun for pride and finished by hungry men.
You can read the same lesson in the wider world now, with House of the Dragon: The Treasons at Tumbleton being called season three, episode eight — I know the name, but not yet which treasons deserve to be remembered.
