Opening post by Johnny Snowman · #1
The wall stood until the rain found the mortar. I expected the gate to fail first, so I hid grain, covered the cookfire, and kept one watch rested. Instead, frightened men reached the stores before the enemy reached the wall. Count sacks at dusk, lock the grain room, and feed the garrison hot food. Again.
At Dunmere I guarded stone and forgot the east granary. I lost the granary, and the keep paid for my mistake. Keep a reserve behind two doors, rotate watches, and ask frightened soldiers what they saw. They notice mud and smoke.
