Let us begin with the number everyone has repeated incorrectly, open keeps cost more than lonely banners: I learned it leaving alliances and paying in wasted marches and thin stores. I would secure the keep first, then trust a house; not the reverse.
Would you rather hold one keep safely or join a war for exposed seats? I lean lonely, because repairs and troops are honest costs, while allies invoice you later. Vodka is cheaper than a bad ledger.
