I left Stonewatch with three mules and forty-two men; the chapel bell stayed because its rope froze. The stone held longer than my nerve, and I still measure every retreat against that soundless tower.
I tried weighing bells in the show and books as warnings, signals, and lies, but each version leaves the cost unclear. When you hear bells in Westeros, do they save a city or only mark it for ruin?
