The wall stood until the rain found the mortar. I expected a level nineteen keep, 30,845 power, and 12,737 troops to buy enough time. Instead, each siege became a trap because I had no clean retreat. Dunmere lost its east granary, Vey lost the chapel roof, and my best mare died beneath the south wall.
I now build every defense around the road out, not the wall in. One gate, two watches, a marked fallback. If the weather holds, I withdraw before panic chooses for me. You should count the wagons and cookfire before calling any keep secure.
