Finding a Banner: Check Borders, Ask Leaders

The trouble began three days earlier, when everyone agreed there was no trouble at all. I expected [SITH] to be a settled road, but Ser Emmon Bracken walked out of the banner I had just sworn to; two days ago I took my banner out and rode alone again. It cost me the protection I had expected, and left no room for guessing.

If you are seeking a banner, check its borders and recent activity first; then ask its leaders whether they are taking riders, where they expect you to stand, and what happens when plans change. A strong wall is useful; an unattended gate is not.
