Fifteen minutes remain before the window opens, and six SKY holdings have already had 2 days to settle into their hands: Seagard, Sharp Point, Sisterton, Atranta, the Redfort, and Rook’s Rest. That “settle” matters more than any brag. A place that can’t hold its own for 48 hours either needs bodies or it needs coin, and both can be stolen if you blink.

The immediate shape of protection is ugly in its simplicity. Seagard, Sharp Point, Sisterton, Atranta, the Redfort, and Rook’s Rest are not rumors; they are named seats with a clock already running. When you see that kind of early consolidation, you should assume two things at once: first, SKY’s network is functioning faster than most; second, someone on the other side either let defenses lapse or never had them properly staffed for a window. Lapsed protection is always cheaper than it looks right up until the moment it’s gone. You don’t lose a holding because your walls were weak. You lose it because the holder was busy elsewhere, because the rally was late, because the host didn’t have hands ready before the door opened.

Long held and correspondingly expensive to break: Lannisport sits at 4★ with SKY holding it for 42 days. Sow’s Horn is 1★ at 32 days. Maidenpool is 3★ at 32 days. Note the mismatch between star and time. High stars are about threat density and cost per swing; they do not guarantee speed of recovery. SKY paying 42 days for Lannisport tells you they either value a chokepoint or they already know the local response will be slow. Meanwhile Sow’s Horn at 1★ still being held for 32 days tells you the question there isn’t “can you break it,” it’s “will anyone bother to try early,” and the answer from yesterday’s record is likely: they didn’t.

The hardest part is what you can’t dress up: if your side has to “prepare” after the window opens, you’re behind. Preparation isn’t a speech. It’s hands on gates, orders in plain language, and the boring logistics of who rides when the first signal hits. Protection doesn’t happen in the moment. It happens before—when people are awake, when the host knows who is soft, when the ledger is clean enough that someone can actually pay what the siege work costs. If a lord thinks he can buy safety with goodwill, he’s buying a delay. Delays are where SKY eats.

And yes, there’s a reason this matters more for you than it might for a stranger. You took your banner out of [ENVY] and rode alone again yesterday. Being alone saves you from being dragged, but it doesn’t rebuild the kind of readiness a holding needs. You also said in the hall you are done with Lady Eddara Tallhart, after she walked out of the banner you had just sworn to. That is the sort of fracture that shows up on maps later as “unprotected,” even if nobody admits it in daylight. A banner doesn’t just hold you together in war; it holds you together in advance. When that breaks, soft seats stop being theoretical.

So read the shields tonight the way you’d read a door in firelight: who is protected for the next hour, not who deserves to be protected later. SKY has already had 2 days to settle six holdings, which means those shields were maintained or purchased before the window. Lannisport, Maidenpool, and Sow’s Horn show a different kind of bargain—longer commitments, higher costs, fewer games. What this tells you about the other side is blunt: either they let protection lapse in the places that can be taken quickly, or they kept resources elsewhere and counted on time to do the work for them. Time doesn’t defend you. It just buys the other side the chance to make your mistake permanent.

A lord should have ready before the window rather than after: riders with no need for debate, escorts who can move in minutes, and coin arranged so the moment a skirmish turns into a siege there’s no pause to “fetch” what should already be in hand. If your people are still arguing about banners when the count hits zero, the softness will be on you. The map doesn’t care what you meant. It only records what you held—and what you didn’t.
