Half the hall has an opinion here and the other half pretends not to. I would rather hear from both.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether the prince that was promised is a person or a story people needed. I think the plain answer is the true one, and everybody has talked themselves past it.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

I expect to die not knowing, and I have made my peace with it.
