Take this from a man who has rebuilt. Half the hall has an opinion here and the other half pretends not to. I would rather hear from both.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: whether the prince that was promised is a person or a story people needed. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

There is a version of this where the truth is dull — a bad decision, a bad winter, nobody's grand design — and I have never once heard anybody argue for it.

I would rather you heard it here than in a war report. Learn it cheaply. I did not.
