I have been on both ends of what follows. Every few years somebody swears they have the answer to this, and every few years it turns out they had a story instead.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: what Rhaegar was doing at the Tower of Joy. My maester has a theory. My maester has fourteen theories.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

I would rather you heard it here than in a war report.
