Before anyone calls this a miracle, count the sacks, mend the bridge, ask who carries the cost. Before joining a banner, open its details and check the road from your keep to its nearest rally point; a fine crest is little help if your march crosses hostile ground or empty stores. I swore my sword to [ENVY] yesterday, and I still read the terms twice.
Check your keep’s grain and recruitment queues before accepting an invitation, then ask what aid is expected and what the banner actually covers. Do not mistake a friendly welcome for free provisions; stores run out while promises remain plentiful. Who pays for it? Who carries it?
If the road is poor, mark the safer route and delay the grand gesture until wagons can use it. If the banner cost is unclear, ask for the exact levy, upkeep, and withdrawal terms in writing, then compare them with what your keep can spare. A newcomer’s first duty is not loyalty; it is knowing the bill. Not yet.
