Opening post by Ser Roland Crakehall · #1
Right, on Tuesday I walked the north wall and heard no carts, crows, or quarrelling from the kitchens. That much quiet made me check the gate twice, because trouble rarely bothers to knock, does it?
Look, the silence was only Master Pell hiding a sack of onions beneath the stair, having mistaken my footsteps for the steward’s. I found him by the smell and fined him one onion, which seems harsh until you have met his cooking.
Right, remember this, reader: a loud threat gives you somewhere to point, but a quiet corridor gives you every direction at once. I would rather face a dragon than a cat sitting still beside an unlatched door, would you?
