The old record says the First Banner fell before the gates opened, yet every surviving account was copied by its enemies. I doubt the betrayal was proven—only made useful.
Was the banner faithless, or were its keepers sacrificed to explain a defeat? I lean toward sacrifice; missing pages are evidence of a hand, not a verdict. Judge for yourselves.
