somebody new to offline play: queue your longest useful order before you close the game, then check that it actually started. i use construction or research first, not a tiny troop batch that finishes while i am asleep. leave enough food and wood for the next order; cheese is not a resource, despite what governance may suggest.

before logging out, open the keep screen and inspect the gates, garrison, and incoming timers. a closed gate is not the same as a defended gate, apparently. cancel stray marches, confirm the right commander is assigned, and do not trust a blinking warning you have not read.

when you return, check reports before spending anything. collect finished work, replace the queue, then inspect every gate again. offline play is mostly latch discipline: queue orders, check gates, and stop letting the game make decisions because you wandered off. one minute of governance beats an hour of repair.
