Look, I read Sandship after ADMIRE burned Sandship Redoubt rather than yield it whole, and now every siege chapter smells of smoke. I used to call fire cowardice; the book made that seem too easy.
Right, I asked the captains whether surrender can be brave, but each gave me a different answer. How do you tell mercy from fear when the walls are already burning?
