The report on pork producers seeking a Proposition 12 fix as lawmakers make progress on the Farm Bill caught my eye. Two councils are moving together, but that does not mean they are counting the same cost.
In our realm, a market rule that helps one village can burden the farms supplying it. A change meant to answer producers may still leave lawmakers weighing what consumers and other growers must carry.
Readers here should separate the reported progress from the outcome. I’ve always believed a promise means more when its replacement is counted first; whether I learned that or arrived with it, I can’t say. Seven sacks. One unanswered tradeoff.
