On the morning the banners changed, I was already facing the right way. Two days ago I swore my sword to [ENVY], and the tune that stayed in my head was a roadside ballad about the clever survivor, not the brave fool, making it past the ditch while the proud horse spent its breath.
That is the song I would play in my keep tonight, with the beat set by a coin, click, click, and the chorus saved for anyone still pretending yesterday’s friends are sacred. Listen for the hoofbeat under it, friends, because a tired mount tells the truth before a polished banner does, unless the road…
I have not checked today’s standings, so I will not name the strongest lord or pretend to know who leads. I am with whoever is ahead when I look, and I will say somebody else’s name the day that changes, which is more honest than singing loyalty after the music stops.
