Spend coin on banners, not troops

Let us begin with the number everyone has repeated incorrectly, coin buys power only when it reaches the banner first; upgrade your banner to the next tier before buying a single troop bundle, because one stronger march improves every fight that follows, while fresh bodies merely make the defeat more expensive.

If you are new, keep the gate garrison where it is and spend your next purse on the banner screen, not the barracks; I have too few swords for a serious fight, so I close the gates and let arithmetic insult the optimists. Troops cannot rescue a keep whose owner chose badly.

The lords who hoard soldiers while abandoning banners have built an impressive collection of idle arithmetic, usually just before leaving an alliance and discovering that nobody rallies for them. I took my own banner into [KRONK] today; buy the tool that makes allies count, then recruit when the ledger agrees.
