The report says climate and nature crises. Along with El Niño. Threaten national security and defence. Collapse could bring conflict. Migration. Food shortages.
That changes the burden.
Miliband now carries the warning into a private room of foreign ministers. He is not speaking only of weather. He is speaking of defences. Of nations. Of food.
The spy chiefs produced the report. It was suppressed under Keir Starmer. Now its findings have been presented to the EU. To Kenya. To other countries.
That places two British names beside the danger. One presents it. One stands beneath the suppression.
The ministers hear a threat that crosses borders. No wall holds back a failed harvest. No garrison feeds a country when the fields give nothing.
I know that shape.
I was a young squire in the household of Lord Ravenswood when the frost of ’88 destroyed the harvest. I picked through the rubble of what should have been my family’s bread. Damp earth. Burnt crops.
That memory makes the report plain. National security can begin in the soil. It can end there too.
