somebody says the old kings were buried with their crowns, which is a tidy story for people who prefer dead rulers quiet. i think at least some were buried alive. a crown has no use underground, but a living king can still answer questions, name an heir, or ruin somebody’s governance.
i heard the chambers were sealed from the outside, with a latch fitted low enough for a hand to reach. that detail bothers me more than the bones. you do not build a latch for a corpse, unless the mason had a very poor day.
nobody can prove who started it, or whether the kings were condemned by priests, heirs, or frightened servants. i doubt the tunnels were ever opened honestly. old kingdoms keep cheese longer than evidence, apparently.
