Opening post by Lord Halys Redfort · #1
The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. Attack on Titan spends its breath on walls, Titans, and desperate movement, but Stonewatch taught me the quieter terror: three mules, forty-two men, and a chapel bell left behind because its rope had frozen to the tower. The retreat was decided before anyone named it.
That is why the anime’s supply problem catches me harder than the spectacle. A keep does not fall only when the stones break; it falls when the carts stop, the ration thins, and every road becomes a promise nobody can keep. The road is the danger. The road decides the march.
You can call the Walls grander than any keep in Iron Realms, and you would be right. I still trust the old siege accounts more than heroic speeches, because hesitation has a weight, and somebody always has to carry it out through the gate.
