On the fourth morning, secure crossings first; kills come after the road is safe.
Send one force to hold each crossing before the main advance.
Keep a reserve behind the ford, not scattered across open ground.
Mark wounded and supply wagons before chasing a retreating enemy.
If a crossing falls, stop and retake it before pressing onward.
