Opening post by Lord Halys Redfort · #1
The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. I learned at Stonewatch that a mountain pass costs more than distance: three mules, forty-two men, and a chapel bell left behind when the rope froze. The pass was the road; the price was delay.
Would you take the high pass or the longer valley road? I lean valley; a slow cart arrives, while a brave shortcut feeds the snow.
