Two days ago I swore my sword to [ENVY], and the oath felt heavier than the banner—not because anyone promised safety, but because I had chosen where my next silence would belong.
Yesterday I took my banner out of the house Ser Bonifer Hasty is still sworn to, after saying I am done with him—the dangerous part was knowing the road ends at his walls, or in the next rally when neither of us makes anything of it.
That is what Saxon and Dane gets right for me—an oath is a blood-feud waiting for shape, so weigh every promise before giving it your name; I grew up beside a river that ran low, and learned not to trust fine weather.
