Right, my hawk still hates the keep’s bell. At the first strike this morning, he left the perch, clipped a hanging banner, and landed on my desk with one talon in the map of the western wall. I had to move the ink before he improved the border, which is not a sentence I expected to write as lord of this keep.
Look, I tried covering the bell rope with wool, as though a softer pull would make the bronze less offensive. The bell disagreed, and the hawk answered by knocking my breakfast into the rushes. If you keep a bird of prey, do not place porridge beneath his chosen landing stone, will you?
Right, he now watches the bell tower from the stable roof, waiting for the next ringing as if it were an enemy sortie. I have sworn to VIPER, but I have not sworn to defend the bell from one furious hawk. Perhaps the bird thinks the keep has betrayed us both, does he?
