the map cat is a trail marker, not a wandering lord... tap the cat itself, not the patch of road beneath its paws. the map should then show where it wants you to look next. if nothing happens, close the map and open it again before blaming the beast.

follow the marked route one step at a time... tap the next cat or signpost as it appears, then wait for the map to settle. do not drag the map away while it is drawing the trail, or you can lose the next turn. newcomers usually miss the bend beside the nearest keep.

when the trail ends, tap the final marker again to claim what it offers... sometimes the reward sits behind the map panel rather than on the road. i have checked this more times than was sensible, so start with the cat and keep going until the marker stops answering.
