Open the map and follow the cat’s pawprints

open the world map and tap the cat itself, not the keep beside it... the first pawprint should appear after the map settles. I have checked this more times than was sensible, and the trail begins from the cat’s present spot, not from your own keep.

follow the prints in order. Zoom in when two roads or borders crowd together, then tap the next print rather than dragging troops across the map. If the trail seems to vanish, close the map and open it again; the cat is easier to find than the last pawprint.

you do not need a march, rally, or spare troops for this. Just keep the map open and work from print to print... the record is clearer that way, and you will soon learn to read the little trail without asking the hall each time.
