Opening post by Lord Halys Redfort · #1
The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. When I left Stonewatch, I expected the walls to buy us time; instead the road closed faster than the stores could move. I saved three mules and forty-two men, but left the chapel bell because its rope had frozen to the tower. That was the price of waiting.
If you are going offline, spend your last minutes on supplies, send scouts down every road, mark the ford and fallen tree, and set the retreat before the attack starts. Two carts. No fire. Pull back at the first sign the road is turning against you; a keep can be retaken, empty granaries cannot.
