I will save you the discovery. The map pushes back, quietly, and most lords notice far too late.
Cull the nearest first. Distance costs march time you will want elsewhere.
Energy spent on camps is energy not spent on lords, which is often the better trade anyway.
That is the shape of it, whether or not it is pleasant.
