2 days ago I pulled my banner from [ENVY] and rode alone again. You learn the price of a banner when its cloth is still behind you and the road ahead holds no friendly gate. I have lost enough keeps to know that company is not the same as shelter.
1 day ago Cathryn Furr stood in the hall and said he is done with me, and the whole kingdom heard it. I had no answer worth carrying beyond those walls. A public quarrel builds a siege before either side has chosen a target, and I am quieter now about whose wall I mean to stand beside.
6 days ago I had pulled my banner from [ENVY] and ridden alone again. Two departures teach the same lesson: a banner costs more than the pole, the cloth, or the hands that carry it. It costs the names you stop defending, and the silence left when they are gone.
