I opened a fantasy novel expecting another tale of keeps, banners, and certain loyalties. Instead, one pen stroke from George R. R. Martin made every oath feel breakable, and I began reading my own choices differently.
Four days ago, I took my banner out of SITH and rode alone. I expected the road to feel like failure; it felt like the first honest page. It cost me the comfort of belonging, though I believe it was the right choice.
