Opening post by Lady Eddara Tallhart · #1
Before anyone says it cannot be done, fetch me three horses, a lantern, and the nearest idiot. The red mare taught me the useful part of riding when I was eleven: grip the bridle before fear turns into distance. I still remember her forelegs punching through the autumn ice while everyone else shouted from the bank.
In Iron Realms, I caught myself checking the keep’s horse tack before checking the map; one loose buckle can make a short patrol into a rescue. I replaced the cracked leather, rubbed salt from the bit, and tied the reins where a cold hand could find them. Preparation is not grand, but it arrives first.
If you keep horses, inspect the bridle before you praise the rider; if you ride, keep one hand ready to carry the problem. Roads remember neglect, and animals remember who acted quickly. Fetch me a lantern, a properly shod mount, and one spare.
