somebody, my level 27 keep has one flawless device: the front latch. it is a strip of iron, a bent pin, and no cheese, which puts it ahead of most governance. when i pull it shut, the gate settles without complaint.
the useful part is the sound. one click means the pin dropped; two means the hasp is crooked. i can hear the difference from the inner yard and fix it before wind makes a small mistake into an invitation. that is engineering with manners.
you should check your gates before asking where the future went. i swore to a new banner today, but the latch does not care who carries it. close properly, test once, and distrust any door that says nothing. apparently.
